EOSC Synergy Workshop: National Policies relevant to EOSC deployment

EOSC Synergy, together with EOSC Pillar, EOSC Nordic, ExPaNDS , NI4OS-Europe, EOSC Future and FAIRsFAIR, invites you to the in-person workshop ‘National Policies relevant to EOSC deployment – Status, gaps, and steps towards harmonisation’, to be organised in Strasbourg, France on May 4th, 2022. During the workshop, we will present the findings of the regional EOSC projects on national open science, funding, and access provisioning policies.

The exact programme and speakers will be announced shortly, but we can already share the overarching themes and sessions this workshop will consist of:

Open Science/EOSC National Policies

This session focuses on the presentation of findings from the EOSC regional projects on the status of national Open Science Cloud and EOSC policies in the regions concerned, Countries in different regions have different approaches and are progressing at different pace. The workshop will discuss differences and gaps, with the view that these make the implementation more complicated, it will aim to increase understanding of the different policies/approaches and suggest recommendations and steps that can be taken to support a successful EOSC implementation and uptake.

Funding policies

This session focuses on the presentation of findings from the EOSC regional projects with respect to funding policies in the regions concerned. It will include presentations of successful business models and viable funding schemes at the institutional, national, or regional and international level. It will address the shortage of coherent and stable funding policies, discuss differences and gaps, and it will suggest recommendations and steps that can be taken to foster better alignment of funding policies nationally and internationally.

Access Provisioning Policies

This session focuses on the presentation of findings from the EOSC regional projects with respect to access provisioning policies in the regions concerned. Specific aspects to be considered will be related to EuroHPC and cross-border resources provisioning, cross-border collaboration, and conditions for transnational access; however, access will also be considered in terms of sustainability, from the user point of view and the availability of skills and capacity building. The findings and recommendations will look at the applicable scope (national/cross-border) and the profile of service policies (how, where they are provided, to which users and under which conditions) for access.

Programme details and speakers will be announced shortly

As this is the first in-person workshop organised in a very long time, we expect high interest. As places are limited, make sure to register in time. An option for remote participation is available, to be indicated at registration.

Please note that on May 3rd, an EOSC Policy event organised by EOSC Future in collaboration with the European Commission, the EOSC Association, the EOSC Steering Board and the University of Strasbourg, will take place in Strasbourg as well. This event will be invitation only.

#EGI2021: Focus on EOSC

Join us on October 19th for an EOSC-themed day!

During our #EGI2021 first conference day, October 19th, we will focus on a variety of European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) projects, services and tools.

In the morning, you can discover the EOSC Synergy project in ‘Bridging from theory to practice with EOSC-Synergy’, or find out how EGI powers several core EOSC Services in the session ‘EGI-powered Thematic Services in EOSC‘.

Throughout the conference, we showcase a number of demonstrations – and on this day, two of them are EOSC-themed: at 12.45 CEST, Find out how the EOSC Test Suite can help with benchmarking and validation, and at 13.30 CEST, how you can onboard resources on the EOSC Portal.

The first afternoon sessions focus on ‘Gaia-X Architecture and its Implications for EOSC and the research community‘ or you can learn more about EOSC -related services and projects during these short presentations about EOSC-Performance, EOSC-DIH, EGI-ACE, EOSC-Synergy and ESCAPE.

Finally, join us for a workshop focusing on EOSC Future and EOSC Core.
